Terada Honke “MYGURT”
Terada Honke “MYGURT”

Here’s an introduction to Terada Honke’s “MYGURT.”

“MYGURT” is an amazake made from rice koji.

This is a non-alcoholic, sugar-free amazake.

“MYGURT” is made by lactic acid fermentation of amazake.

I think it’s fair to say this is a rice yogurt drink fermented by additive-free, plant-based lactic acid bacteria derived solely from rice and water.
- Rice Koji Amazake
- 100% Japanese Rice
- Naturally fermented with plant-based lactic acid bacteria
- No additives used
- Non-alcoholic
- No sugar added
With a history spanning over 340 years, the brewery began crafting natural sake under the previous generation. Today, it uses only pesticide-free rice as its raw material, employs absolutely no additives, and ferments the sake using only the brewery’s own natural microorganisms—not pure cultures. While singing songs, the brewers craft the sake by hand, minimizing the use of machinery and harmonizing with the microorganisms.

Amazake comes in single-serving sizes in glass bottles with white lids.

The label is a pale blue that evokes the image of rice yogurt.
My thoughts on drinking amazake

The amazake poured into the cup is a milky white color, almost white.

As I poured the amazake into the cup, the sweet aroma of rice koji amazake wafted through the air.

When I took a sip, I could taste the refreshing tartness of the lactic acid bacteria and the subtle sweetness of the amazake made with rice koji.

The tartness of the lactic acid bacteria is more pronounced than the sweetness—it’s truly rice yogurt.
