Marukome’s “Plus Koji Amazake” is used as an ingredient in frozen drinks.
To celebrate Godiva Japan’s 50th anniversary, a large sign like the one shown above was displayed in front of the store.
A paper advertisement like the one in the photo above is posted next to the cash register inside the store, featuring a product description alongside the tagline, “Nostalgic, yet new—the essence of koji.”
The product description reads: “A frozen drink with a gentle sweetness, combining rice koji amazake (0% alcohol) with white chocolate. Enjoy the refreshing flavor of amazake and white chocolate.”

My thoughts on drinking a frozen beverage
This time, I ordered the regular size.
When you lift the lid of the cup, you’ll find a generous dollop of fluffy, snow-white whipped cream sitting on top.
If you look closely at the whipped cream, you’ll see a faintly yellow powder and rice-shaped candies on top.
This ginger powder is used to make rice puffs—crispy treats shaped like grains of rice and made from domestically grown glutinous rice.
If you look closely at the cup from the side, you can see a subtle difference and that it has three layers.
These three layers, from top to bottom, are whipped cream, ice cream, and Marukome’s koji amazake.

I just tried the whipped cream on top.
When I took a bite of the fresh cream, it had a milder, gentler flavor than I expected, and the texture of the rice puffs—which felt like individual grains of rice—combined with the light, fluffy mouthfeel of the fresh cream made for an interesting experience.
When you stir the entire frozen drink and scoop it up with a spoon, the whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and koji amazake blend together to form a milkshake-like consistency.
As I take a sip through the straw, the crunchy texture of the vanilla ice cream and the light, fluffy creaminess of the whipped cream fill my mouth.
As I sipped it, I fully savored the subtle sweetness of vanilla and the gentle sweetness of Marukome’s koji amazake.
Thanks to the crushed nuts, it had a rich, nutty aroma, and there were small slime-shaped pieces of white chocolate at the bottom of the cup, so I was able to fully enjoy the rich flavor of white chocolate in this fr
